Introduction
I’ve been messing around with Block Blast over the past week, using it as a “coffee break” game. No grinding, no login streaks—just a grid, some shapes, and my own tendency to overthink where to put them.
Gameplay
The first few games felt easy: drop blocks, clear lines, repeat. But once I started caring about not losing early, the game changed:
- I began saving open space in the middle instead of filling everything immediately.
- I noticed that one bad piece placement could trap big parts of the board.
- Double clears (row + column at once) became little goals inside each run.
It’s nice because nothing is hidden—every mistake you make is visible on the board. If you wedge a weird shape in the wrong place, you’ll see the consequences five moves later.
Tips
- Don’t fill every gap just because you can. Sometimes leaving space is smarter.
- Work around a “pivot area.” I like keeping a big central region open and building from the edges in.
- Use the early game to set the board’s shape. A neat early layout makes the late game much easier.
- When in doubt, place to the side. Pushing tricky pieces to the edges keeps the middle flexible.
- Stop for a second before big pieces. They can make or break your whole attempt.
Conclusion
After a week of casual sessions, Block Blast has become my go-to “between tasks” game. It doesn’t demand much, but it rewards you when you slow down and think a little more carefully.
